Best Simple Recipe for Asian-style Bread


  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg


In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Mix well.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm water, warm milk, vegetable oil, and egg.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

Knead the dough for 10-15 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or individual buns.

Place the bread in a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise for another 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).

Brush the top of the bread with beaten egg or milk and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
